GERMANY – DESK PIECE – AIR SERVICE – GONG FOR OFFICER’S CASINOSKU: 14-448ĪIR SERVICE – GONG FOR OFFICER’S CASINO. This would make an interesting display item. There is an easel-like prop on the reverse to securely hold up the frame. There is a place to slip in a CDV from the reverse. So this frame could have been used to display a photo by any soldier in one of these units, or his loved ones back home. Jäger Bataillone, Machine Gun Abteilungs, Eisenbahn-Bataillone, Telegraphen-Bataillone, Kraftfahr Bataillone, Luftschiffer Bataillone, and Flieger-Bataillone all used the tschako. While only half of the tschako is actually showing, if you look closely enough you can see one of the two lions that would have appeared on a Bavarian headpiece. Nestled between some leaves is a tschako in profile, complete with field badge. At the very bottom of the frame is what appears to be a soldier’s pack with a pair of crossed rifles. In the center at the top of the frame is a large cutout Wittelsbach Crown. The checkerboard area, which would have been blue and white, is in place with a crown over each banner. The frame area features twin unfurled banners of Bavaria. This is a really attractive photo frame that would have been used to honor a Bavarian soldier.
